Social Media Isn’t Evil—it’s all About How You Use It

Who here doesn’t make use of social media? Whether it’s for personal or professional use, social media has drastically changed the way that people have interacted with each other. There has been a lot of discussion about the evils of social media.

We’re not going to lie though, it can be rather awful. It’s being used to spread hateful things. However, that does not mean that it is social media itself that is bad. It’s actually the user. It has the same logic that just because you trip on a wire, that doesn’t mean it’s evil.

It is all about how it is used.

Social media has brought about a lot of good things for society. Critical information can be shared at the speed of light—sometimes even faster than that. News reports go viral so fast and that’s a good thing. While some people make use of social media to spread about ignorance, it only means that other users need to step up their game.

Users in general need to improve how they perceive information and determine if it is legit or helpful. Just because someone puts a smelly foul thing in your hands does not mean that you have to endure it. Users in general need to hold themselves accountable for what they allow on their sphere of perception.

If there is anything harmful they see in their social media do something about it other than complain. You can report the post, you can block the user, and you can even leave that particular avenue of social media. Just because some knuckleheads get their rocks off being divisive on social media does not make social media the source of evil.

Everyone must use social media responsibly and respectfully. We will all be better people and civilization for it.
