In some big news today, The Traveling Circus have announced that they have picked up another player to join their fighters squad. That player is none other then arguably Australia’s best Super Street Fighter IV player, and one of the best Akuma players in the world, that’s right, it’s Melbourne’s favourite Son, Michael “ToXY” Guida.

Check out the video announcement below.

And here is the official press statement from The Traveling Circus:

THE TRAVELING CIRCUS

Release 01:10:11:14:08
Monday, January 10th 2011

TTC is committed to supporting the Australian circuit, and the development of it’s players. We are proud to announce the most recent addition to our TTC fight team.

From Australia: TOXY - contract term: 1 year

Toxy is one of the most recognized names in the country, and could easily be named the best player on the entire Australian continent.

An always improving competitor, with worldclass skills, and a deeper understanding of the game.
(See: Toxy’s tips)

His demanding work ethic, combined with an impressive list of wins over some of the worlds best, deserves recognition and reward. Toxy entered tournaments for fighting games in 2004 and has been competing ever since. Doing extremely well in a variety of different ‘Street Fighter’ titles.

Having placed 1st or at least top 3 in over 95% of the major tournaments in Australia, Toxy is ready to test his skills on an international level. Plans are already in place for 2011 U.S tournaments, and we are excited for his arrival!

MVC3 players should also take note, that Toxy has plans to compete, and should be treated as a serious threat.

With Toxy joining Tokido on the team, we now have Australia’s best Akuma teaming with Japan’s/World’s best Akuma both fighting under the TTC name.

If you would like to invite Toxy to your tournament please contact our agents: Bookings@TheTravelingCircus.net
You can support Toxy’s efforts in becoming a full time competitor by purchasing his signature series shirt (Designed by BOSSLOGIC) for a low pre-order price of $19.99

This is not only huge news for ToXY, and the The Traveling Circus, but it’s also big news for Australia in general. TTC’s move to sponsor an Australian player especially someone as talented as ToXY will help raise the profile down here. So we would like to thank TTC for stepping up and taking a chance with a player who isn’t from Asia, Europe or the US, something most companies wouldn’t dare to do.

Shadowloo hopes this blossom’s into a great relationship between TTC and ToXY. As for ToXY’s teammate, I’m sure he will be pretty happy to hear the announcment. ToXY and Tokido got along very well while Tokido was here for Shadowloo Showdown 2010. Now we just wait to see who the 3rd player is going to be.

Congrats again ToXY and of course congratulations to TTC for picking up such a talented player.

  4. Berzerk

Great news – well done Toxy. There does not seem to be a confirmation of an international tournament commitment for Toxy by Travelling Circus but they do call for invitations so hopefully that means good things for him.

This should be shared out to all the local game sites/blogs – is it in the works Ali?

  5. EXC355UM

Not yet, not sure who to actually approach. I have posted the news on a few forums though, and will post this on TEC soon. You’re more then welcome to help spread the news Dan. :)

  6. Bugsimus

Oh WOW! Congrats Toxy…. Well deserved :-D

  7. Cyrus

    Buttered

  8. Shinku

Thought Humanbomb was the best player in Australia O_o

  9. EXC355UM

Who?.. I’m kidding, HB is ToXY’s rival after all, and deserves to be picked up by someone down the track.
But isn’t Johnny moving to Hong Kong soon though?.. =P

  10. Berzerk

Ali: I’ll drop it here and there with some people but am too free to follow up right now. I suggest using the tips/contact function on all your favourite aussie blogs.

Key would be to msg @serrels on twitter or via @kotaku /kotaku au’s contacts and the guys at gamespot au ‘s Randall and why not… ign au ‘s @patchkolan

That should get you started :)

  11. Exis

Congratulations Toxy and great job to the Shadowloo crew for making this happen!
You guys really raised the standard when it comes to helping the community yet again :D

  12. gunslinger

    GG ToXy

  13. jlynx

Wow congrats Toxy this is fantastic news! I just got a bunch of shirts off TTC recently too, they are really good quality shirts.

  14. Spidercarnage

Congrats Toxy, you deserve this, you have been representing Australia in the international fighting game community for years now. If there was anyone who deserves sponsorship it’s you.

  15. mooseking

A Massive Congratulations to Toxy! A no doubt well earned sponsorship. Here’s hoping all the best for you with TTC and do Australia proud :)

  16. Flatman

Best in Australia at ssfiv? Big call there mate though hes all round great at most fighting games

  17. EXC355UM

I am going to assume you think Humanbomb is the best?. Fair enough, Johnny is an awesome player, and in MY opinion, ToXY is the best, HB a close second.
You have your opinion and I and many others have ours. :)

One thing we can all agree on, we love to watch these two go at it.

  18. acedizl

Congrats ToXY, well done mate. Ali, you and the boys have done a good job once again! Keep it up bro!

and in MY opinion HB is the best lol. But lets not turn this into a syd v melb thing =]

  19. Sicario

Of course , everyone can do oppinion, but the most important is the result in the tournament also between them,,, then… hb is number 1 and toxic number 2….both very good players, and similar level.. but HB is the best…

Congratulations toxic for you contract !!

  20. acedizl

btw… i fcking love the new background on the site!

  21. dk

    grats

but spacaman is the best, followed by george (afterdeath)

  22. Sicario

where is my opinnion ali? :(

  23. Really?

So opinion is how you judge who is the best?

    SS: HB 4th, Toxy 5th
    BAM: HB 1st, Toxy 2nd
EVO APAC: HB 2nd, Toxy 3rd
    OHN8: HB 1st, Toxy 2nd

Let’s not bother with tournaments any more guys

  24. Andre

@flatman do you know what “arguably” the best means? So it is not a “big” call.

  25. Phatkau

That’s awesome stuff! Congrats on your sponsorship Toxy!!

  26. k3npachii

I thought Ali was the best ! Lol ggs toxy. Australia REPRESENT !!!

  27. k3npachii

Ps. Hb is the best at sf4 character poses hands down.

  28. HB's BFF

Congratulations to Toxy for getting the sponsorship deal.

But please don’t spoil his moment in the sun by making outlandish statements.

Let us look at the past major tournaments that both HB and Toxy have been in:

    Ozhadou Nationals 7 – Street Fighter 4 – 1st Humanbomb 2nd
    Ozhadou Nationals 8 – Street Fighter 4 – 2nd Humanbomb 1st
    EVO APAC – Super Street Fighter 4 – 3rd Humanbomb 2nd
    Battle Arena Melbourne 2010 – Super Street Fighter 4 – 2nd Humanbomb 1st
    Battle Arena Melbourne 2010 – SSF4 Teams – 2nd Humanbomb 1st
    Shadowloo Showdown 2010 – Super Street Fighter 4 – 5th Humanbomb 4th
    Shadowloo Showdown 2010 – SSF4 Teams – 2nd Humanbomb 3rd

Let’s not forget about 5v5 Sydney vs Melbourne at both BAM and Shadowloo Showdown.

    People lie, numbers don’t.

Not taking anything away from Toxy, dude is a champion and definitely Melbourne’s finest and deserving of the sponsorship deal. Just had to set the record straight.

  29. Caliz

    Congrats to Toxy

  30. EXC355UM

The main reason those credentials are there is so the people who don’t know ToXY can check out what he has achieved in the fighting game world. Those credentials are not a slap in the face for Humanbomb.

Humanbomb is a top player and has shown it many times in tournament. No one is taking anything away from Humanbomb but I am personally basing MY opinion from what I have seen in and out of tournament, and not just between both players, but how both players handle other players, and NOT just Australian players, we’re talking against internationals as well. Again, this is all opinion, if this offends you then you need to take a step back and take a look at yourselves.

Now this is a time when all Australian fighters should be celebrating, we finally have our foot in the door for getting Australian players more recognized, but all we have is a bunch of players who are trying to rain on ToXY’s parade all because of someone saying “Arguably the best”. You guys make it sound like ToXY should have said “Sorry TTC, I can’t accept because Humanbomb is the best according to some other people”. Ok… no worries.

At least man up and use your real usernames and not hide behind fake ones when you want to make a comment, cause no one likes two faced people. ;)

  31. EXC355UM

@Ace, Sicario: and the others: First off, thank you for using your real usernames, it’s nice to know there are some honest people in the world. Secondly, thank you for voicing your opinion, but.. your opinion is WRONG!. I joke, I love you guys.
Plus, we need to have our opinions, or this Melbourne vs Sydney rivalry will never last.

@Kenpachi: That’s what I’ve been telling everyone!. I going to assume I will be the 3rd announced. It will be a 3 man Akuma team sponsored by TTC. 8)

  32. EXC355UM

ToXY gets some love from a few sites:
First off we have Tokido’s Blog: Tokido welcomes ToXY to the Team
Next up, we have a nice article on RipTen.com
And of course, it’s on TEC, and Muttons BeingaPro Blog. :)

  33. Jacob

so happy for toxy…remember ryu v akuma is in Ryus favour :p HB or Toxy, neither player is better than the other I think.

  34. robsux

Well done Mike. Very deserving of this sponsorship! Keep leveling up and kicking a$$!

  35. Gamogotron

“It will be a 3 man Akuma team sponsored by TTC.”

Holy shit that would be rad xD

  36. Berzerk

There’s room for more. People should remember that and consider this not as “Australia’s one shot” and consider if it should be Toxy, and look at it more as an opening of the door.

When I was sponsored, there was one “spot” and I had to fight to keep that. But that was in a league. This is an open sponsorship to help a player get to as many tournaments as possible in an active and broad tournament scene.

If we as a community can get behind this and understand the opportunities, those opportunities will grow.

  37. Muttonhead

Being a Pro…now that sounds like a good title for Toxy if he decides to follow Tokido and Gamerbee in setting up a blog!

  38. Justice

I was going to suggest that to him actually. I think many people would be interested in hearing what he says. Mike has great knowledge of the game.

  39. EXC355UM

Also, news made it to ESFIWorld.com
Thanks again to all the news outlets covering this story. Means a lot to Australian gamers.

  40. Kenny

I’d like to chime in that ToXY’s got some recognition from his past performance in X-Men vs Street Fighter and Super Turbo as well. He took a game off Justin Wong in X-men vs Street Fighter at EVO. In Super Turbo, he was mopping the floor with practically everyone else in Melbourne, and in the combo video department, wowed players by managing to throw 2 Supers into a single combo. And he’s good at 3rd Strike too.

On top of that, since MvC3 is on the way, ToXY’s a good bet to be a beast in that game too, given his past performance in the other games in that series. MvC3′s going to be big at least for 2011, so you can see why TTC made their choice for ToXY.

Me, I’m just glad Australia’s scene has now got some international attention. Make no mistake, when overseas people start looking up ToXY’s matches, all the other guys who deserve to be known will get their kudos too. This can not possibly be a bad thing for anyone.
